HOPE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

AND THE CHURCH

Last Thursday, 140 guests attended the Archbishop's Annual Fundraising Dinner for NET Ministries. The theme of the evening was 'Hope for Young People and Church'. Thank you to all who attended and to those that gave so generously to this ministry that does bring hope for young people and the Church. A panel discussion kept the room engaged as Fr Neil Muir, Rector of the Holy Spirit Provincial Seminary of Queensland, Huw Warmenhoven, Global Catholic Youth Director for Alpha International and Catholic Lead for Alpha Australia and our own Renee Doyle, Director of Leadership Development, broke open the theme with pertinent questions.   

I said on the evening,  

“NET’s mission is simple yet profound: to make faith possible for young people through young people – what we call peer with peer ministry. Through engaging retreats, dynamic youth programs, and one-to-one relationships, young people (the missionaries) create environments where young individuals can encounter Jesus Christ and cultivate a deep and lasting relationship with Him… That of course we pray for financial generosity tonight, but what we’re really praying is that the Lord would fill each of you with Hope. Hope for our Church, Hope for the future and Hope in the fact that Jesus is still changing lives through the NET missionaries, 35+ years on. What a joy it is to for us as NET to thank those of you who have generously allowed us to make faith possible and what an opportunity it is to be able to invite more of you to join us in the mission. How great would it be if our dinner was one big arrow of hope for all of you who have stepped into this room tonight.” 

We pray the same for you, and thank you for the support that you give. 

The NET Missionaries return home for a wrap up of their year in just over a week. It’s an exciting time! They have been firing arrows of hope for 10 months. We are so proud of all they have given in their year of mission and we are looking forward to celebrating them on the 15th of November at our Thanksgiving Mass.

FUNDRAISING DINNER

It really was a good night. The panel conversation was truly inspiring, featuring thoughtful insights from our speakers, Fr Neil Muir, Renee Doyle and Huw Warmenhoven  about the challenges and opportunities facing our young people today. Their perspectives reminded us of the vital role we all play in fostering hope and guiding the next generation. The night also featured testimonies from current serving NET Missionaries, Alaina Thachuk (Canada) and Nathan Sachse (South Australia) from the NET Maroochydore Team. The night was superbly MC’d by NET alumnus, Peter Munns.
